The end of summer is a transitional time, when hot and lazy days start to come to an end, vacations are over, and kids return to school. It feels like the world is revving back into action.

But how do you go from zero to 60 mph in your business marketing? First, think of it as a steady acceleration rather than a race. You can’t build and launch marketing plans overnight. Give yourself this time to get your bearings and start making a plan. Here are some ideas.

Tackle Overwhelm

It’s easy to feel like there is so much to do that you’re paralyzed into doing nothing. Star making lists of what’s needed, such as a website content update, getting on a regular schedule with email newsletters or a holiday campaign. Then you can tackle one at a time at a pace that’s right for you, rather than trying to do everything all at once.

Strategize

Start with small tasks and work up to bigger ones so you can have little wins that give you momentum. Relatively quick content marketing projects can provide satisfaction that you’re taking action. Try sending a reconnect email to your clients and let them know a regular newsletter, blog series or holiday sale is coming. This action creates accountability for bigger projects, after all, you promised. Chances are, your clients are transitioning too and aren’t ready to see your full rollout just yet.

Create a Schedule

Kids and adults are going back to hustle mode. Make sure you don’t fill your day with so many meetings and admin tasks that you can’t get your work done. Schedule tasks for when they fit best in your day, such as deep-thinking work in the morning when you’re fresh, mundane work after lunch and meetings in the afternoon when you’re feeling more sociable. Block off time to focus on projects with undivided attention. The best marketing campaigns are those that have allowed the creative breathing time to come up with something innovative or stunningly on point.
